Iran’s Birjand airport to go international

TEHRAN – Birjand Airport will be available for Hajj (major pilgrimage to Mecca) flights in two years, civil engineering deputy to South Khorasan Province Governor General announced on Tuesday.
“Over 12 billion rials ($1.3m) has been allocated for the development plans at this airport and 30% of the job is completed,” Saeed Hosseinpur continued, adding, construction of a new terminal at 3,500 square meters will kick off in the anniversary of presidential visit.
Construction of control tower, 14 km of fencing, water supply and electrification projects and safety improvement are among the works underway at the airport, he said.
Birjand is the capital city of South Khorasan Province.
